Coney Island
Engel grew up in Williamsburg and Brighton Beach, and graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School in 1936, that was a few blocks from Coney Island. He began shooting Coney Island at an early age because it was a place he knew well, and said were some of the best years of his life.
